Leaders have high ambition for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
Thoughtful adaptions are made for pupils with complex needs.
Pupils are well supported in class and are fully involved in the life of the school.
At St Joseph & St Teresa’s school we recognise that all children with SEND have a right to be educated therefore, ability plays no part in the selection criteria and children’s needs and abilities are not considered negatively when determining admission.

SEND Definition
A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
They have a learning difficulty or disability if they have:
- A significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
- A disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.
Special educational provision is educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for other children or young people of the same age by mainstream schools.
The SEND Code of Practice (2014) recognise 4 broad categories of SEND:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and Physical
The local authority provide a range of support and guidance for pupils with SEND and their families.
