Pupils feel safe and are safe.

Bullying is rare. Pupils are adamant that racism and discrimination hardly ever happn and are confident that adults take any incidents seriously and deal with these swiftly.

13th - 17th November Anti-Bullying Week 2023 theme: MAKE A NOISE ABOUT BULLYING!
Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is coordinated in England and Wales by the Anti-Bullying Alliance.

The week  kicked off with Odd Socks Day on Monday 13th November, where adults and children wore odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique, there was some surprising choices!

The main message to our School Community is...
Our call to action:
Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as 'just banter'

It doesn't have to be this way.

Of course, we won't like everyone, and we don't always agree, but we can choose respect and unity.

This AB week let's come togerther to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something hurtful and what we can do in our school to stop it.

Together we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying.

From the playground to Pupil Parliament, from our phones to our homes let's make a noise about bullying.

When 'Banter' becomes Bullying.

As part of AB week, we are urging everyone to think about what we mean by banter and the role it can play in bullying.

Banter and jokes can play an important role in the development and maintenance of friendships.

However, sometimes these behaviours can be taken too far and can be hurtful.

We are not saying that we cannot joke with friends, but we encourage everyone to be minmdful of how, sometimes these jokes may not be received as they were intended.

How our school reaches out to stop bullying...
School focus on recommended activities everyone can take to reach out and stop bullying.

In out classes we create art work, look at social stories, read about historical events, problem solve situations,  debate, empathise, and look at ways to remove barriers.

Emotional well-being support is accessed in school for any pupil and family.

This year we explored what banter means and when it becomes hurtful.

Pupil Parliament held an impressive assembly at the start of AB week and shared this message, as well as listening to pupils views and suggestions. Please see below.

Anti-Bullying Alliance patron, CBBC and CBeebies star Andy Day led support for the campaign, with his band Andy and the Odd Socks.

The band recorded and released a song to mark Odd Socks Day on the first day of Anti-Bullying Week, look for it on the AB Alliance website!

There’s a serious message behind the fun: We’re all unique, all different, and let’s be kind to each other and respect each other’s individuality.
